Oct 12, 1989 Here we report the first isochron age of carbonates using the 238U–206Pb method on corals. This method, which gives good accuracy even for

Problem : In uranium mineral, the atomic ratio $\frac{N^{U-238}}{N^{Pb-206}}$ is nearly equal to one. The age (in years) of the mineral is nearly (given that half-life of U 238 is 4.5 × 10 9 years). (A) 3.0 × 10 8 (B) 4.5 × 10 8 (C) 3.0 × 10 9 (D) 4.5 × 10 9. Solution: Equal no. of atoms of U 238 and Pb 206 means half of U has

So, we have 50 gm radiogenic Pb-206 and 50 gm of U-238. The original amount of U-238 must have been 100 gm and we're now down to exactly half the original. so, exactly one half-life (4.5 BY) has passed. 2.

t 1/2 for U 238 = 4.5 x 10 9 year. Question: QUESTION 5 Use The Average Pb-206/U-238 Values That You Calculated To Approximate The Age Of Each Ash Bed Using Figure 2.6. Upload Figure 2.6 Here Showing How You Arrived At The Approximate Ages. Pb-206 49.9963907364% I know that the 50% will be U 238 but will 49.996% of the atoms be really be Pb 206 ?

Ans: (D) If the U-238:Pb-206 ratio in a zircon in a lava flow was found to be 3:1, how old is the flow?

Problem #30: The isotope Ra-226 decays to Pb-206 in a number of stages which have a combined half-life of 1640 years. Chemical analysis of a certain chunk of concrete from an atomic-bombed city, preformed by an archaeologist in the year 6264 AD, indicated that it contained 2.50 g of Ra-226 and 6.80 g of Pb-206. Uranium (`""_(92)U""^(238)`) decayed to `""_(82)Pb""^(206)`.

U-238 decay series, with half-lives of 22.3 y and 138.4 d, respectively. three series of naturally occurring radioactive elements: Pb-206 for the uranium series,.

However, in reality, there is more lead than uranium. 1) Determine moles of U-238 and Pb-206: Assume 240. g of U-238 and 111 g of Pb-206.

92 U 238 by successive radioactive decays changes to 82 Pb 206. A sample of uranium ore was analysed and found to contain 1.0 g U 238 and 0.1 g Pb 206. Assuming that Pb 206 has accumulated due to decay of uranium, find out the age of ore. t 1/2 for U 238 = 4.5 x 10 9 year.

The Decay Of U-238 To Pb-206 Can Be Used To Estimate The Age Of Inorganic Matter. The Half-life Of U-238 Is 4.5 X 109 Years. In A Particular Rock Sample, The Ratio Of The Numbers Of Pb-206 To U-238 Atoms Is 0.62.

238U-206PB AGE AND URANIUM-LEAD ISOTOPE SYSTEMATICS OF MARE BASALT 10017. A. M.. Gaffney1, L. E. Borg1, and Y. Asmerom2, 1Institute of

The data are best interpreted using projections of a new four-dimensional concordia diagram defined by 206 Pb*/ 238 U The existence of two 'parallel' uranium–lead decay routes (238 U to 206 Pb and 235 U to 207 Pb) leads to multiple dating techniques within the overall U–Pb system. The term U–Pb dating normally implies the coupled use of both decay schemes in the 'concordia diagram' (see below). However, use of a single decay scheme (usually 238 U to 206 Pb) leads to the U–Pb isochron dating method, analogous to the rubidium–strontium dating method. In an ore containing uranium, the ratio of U 238 to P b 206 is 3. Calculate the age of the ore, assuming that all the lead present in the ore is the final stable product of U 238. Take the half-life of U 238 to be 4.5 × 10 9 yr.
